Purchasing a new hair styling tool can come with many decision about options and benfits.  There are so many options available that it can be overwhelming to find the best one for you.  Not all styling irons are the same, and inexpensive does not necessarily mean best value.  The top four features to consider are plate types, heat settings, size of plates and warranty.

The most common types of plates on a hair straightener are metal, glass, ceramic, titanium and a tourmaline ceramic blend.  Metal and glass are typically used in the least expensive straighteners. There downfall is that they are usually painted which will often result in chipping and heat damage to your hair.  Hair straighteners with metal and glass plates tend to take longer to heat and don’t always heat evenly, leading to dry, damaged, frizzy hair.

The next level of hair straighteners usually come with ceramic plates.  They are just a bit more expensive, but certainly still very affordable.  The ceramic plates hair more evenly and produce smoother, shinier and less frizzy hair.  Titanium plated hair straighteners are very smooth and are known to heat evenly and maintain their heat.  This is important for even straightening and styling and efficient results.

The highest priced hair straighteners are made from a tourmaline and ceramic blend. Although they are more expensive, they are still worth it because of the high quality of the style.  Your hair will be left smooth and shiny and stay that way for the entire day.
